Stay-cations and Summer Service

What are you doing this summer? Many of us have had to cut back on the expenses of a vacation this summer. However, have you considered all the great things our own community has to offer?

Take a walk over the Friendship Bridge and play in Wallace Marine Park. Have a cup of coffee and enjoy the local art at Clockworks Cafe and Cultural Center. When was the last time you drove between Salem and McMinnville? It is one of the prettiest drives in Oregon! So when considering your summer plans; think about where you would take someone who has never been to your community. There are so many attractions, restaurants and fun activities in your own backyard.

While you are out enjoying the sites and sounds of vacation and coming home to your own bed each night, think about what it takes to keep our community the wonderful place it is to live.

Volunteering while on vacation might sound like work but it can be very enjoyable. Spend a few hours getting dirty in a community garden. See a few young smiling faces while passing out lunches at the Summer Lunch Program. And as always, feel free to check out the HandsOn website for great summer volunteering opportunities or call us if you need assistance!
